有別於其他雙年展的操作模式,關美館特別邀請國內重要策展人、學者等成立雙年展諮詢委員會,成員包括王嘉驥、石瑞仁、江衍疇、胡永芬、胡朝聖、張正仁、蘇瑤華、曲德益等,從推薦名單中選出各國參展藝術家,接著,再透過各國藝術家尋找各自的策展人以及藝評家,期待以這樣的結構策略創造出深具直接交流的亞洲藝術平台。 所有人都會做夢,但藝術家卻是夢的實踐者。 「2008關渡雙年展」以亞洲不同國度藝術家的「夢」作為串連的基點,連結出的多元的、關於夢的藝術實踐,藝術家成為夢的實踐者,也同時拋出藝術家對所處環境的「潛在」提問,以及在面對全球化變動中,亞洲社會如何自處的自覺方式。也從藝術家的創作內容中,拓展夢的最大範圍值。以「夢」為主題,結構下的十個「個展」作為子題,前後的呼應成為一種觀看的循環。循環裡將呈現當代藝術家對亞洲社會體系中諸多面向的觀察與詮釋,橫向跨越的國度從日本、南韓、中國大陸、越南、馬來西亞、印尼、泰國、印度、以及台灣等10個國家。跨國度的聚集氛圍,將交集、再現亞洲各民族在不同的當代社會文本中對「夢」所發展出的特定意函與社會意義。  關美館在今年首次推出「夢―2008關渡雙年展」,透過聯合十位亞洲不同國度的藝術家個展,聚集、並置出亞洲當代藝術在各國的即時面貌與創作時態,並試圖藉此聯合藝術家、策展人、藝術評論、藝術空間之展覽機制,在地域、民族、信仰、語言等差異的文化價值體系裡,務實地在亞洲交集出一個當代、即時、連結、開放式的交流網路,進而,在這個交集的平台中進行對話、溝通、交流與分享。也從而累積出亞洲當代藝術領域裡的創作能量與論述場域,並開啟亞洲地區相互間的分享契機,也在全然西方價值主導的世界裡,尋求建立存在於亞洲的區域系統、交集平台。因此,本雙年展以「夢」為題,串連十位亞洲地區的當代藝術家個展,除了積極建構出台灣與亞洲各區域間的交流網路,也藉此圓夢計畫,再次強調關美館的國際視野與跨國合作,為台灣當代藝術在國際網路裡再增添另一新連結。有別於其他雙年展的操作模式,關美館特別邀請國內重要策展人、學者等成立雙年展諮詢委員會,成員包括王嘉驥、石瑞仁、江衍疇、胡永芬、胡朝聖、張正仁、蘇瑤華、曲德益等,從推薦名單中選出各國參展藝術家,接著,再透過各國藝術家尋找各自的策展人以及藝評家,期待以這樣的結構策略創造出深具直接交流的藝術生態平台。 Solo強調的是個人呈現的延續性與完整性,關美館以Solo作為藝術家個人的參展形式,再以聯合十位亞洲不同國度的藝術家個展之方式,企圖來建構、交集出Solos的藝術能量磁場。因此,本雙年展以「夢」為題,串連10位亞洲地區的藝術家個展,除了積極建構出台灣與亞洲各區域間的交流網路,也藉此圓夢計畫來開啟未來的合作。所有人都會做夢,但藝術家卻可能是夢的實踐者,甚至具有相當的社會性意義。「2008關渡雙年展」以亞洲不同國度青年藝術家的「夢」作為串連的基點,連結出多元、關於夢的藝術實踐,藝術家成為夢的實踐者,也同時拋出藝術家對所處環境的「潛在」提問,及在面對全球化變動中,亞洲社會自處的自覺方式。也從藝術家的創作內容中,拓展夢的最大範圍,它可以是夢的實驗、無意識的一扇窗、身心的幻想作用、藝術家的狂夢、記憶的消逝,乃至是對夢的超自然詮釋等不同的理解。 本雙年展所邀請的藝術家之中,韓國新媒體藝術家鄭然斗,延續作品Bewitched系列創作,透過本展完成他跨國在台北創作的拼圖,完成了兩組在他眼中深具台灣民風與社會意涵的夢想實踐。一組是檳榔西施想要重溫國小快樂純真的校園生活與同學快樂地在教室嬉鬧相處;另一組則是一大學男生想要過著像國王在宮廷中有宮女服侍的奢華生活。 越南藝術家阮初芝淳將「奔跑」作為他的行為符號,象徵為難民而跑,以台北城的街廓作為路線底圖,有計畫的以跑代畫,在衛星空照圖上以汗水勾繪出孩童圖畫,像是給僵硬的灰色叢林一個天真的想像符號,給地球村繡上一朵朵的胸花。 新加坡新銳藝術家Donna Ong用湯匙、刮刀、鍋、碗、瓢、盆、桶以及單車內框等複數化物件來組成少女夢想中晶瑩剃透的、視覺化的、轉動、閃亮的、清脆的一組夢之鼓;並以研究、收集源自二次大戰前的美、日民間交換的洋娃娃,經過戰爭與仇恨蹂躪後的洋娃娃,來諷刺戰爭給人們帶來的哀傷與殘忍。 如果人生的最大夢想是變性,那麼這似乎要跟上帝來搶。日本藝術家碧悠畢露的自畫像系列作品,殘酷揭露「他」變成「她」的變性過程。慣以裝扮童話夢境裡白雪公主的台灣年輕藝術家何孟娟,這次更以黑白攝影的形式提出令人期待的馬戲團系列作品。以身體各部位進行測量的台灣行為藝術家石晉華將完整呈現近幾年的身體測量系列創作。中國新藝術潮流中玩世主義繪畫代表人物方力鈞,展出宇宙蒼窮之大型油畫作品以及透明球體的嬰兒裝置作品。另外印度新媒體藝術家的Shilpa提出四位印度女生與觀眾對話的影像裝置作品。以觀念作雕塑創作的印尼藝術家Handiwirman Saputra用超大型雞蛋與雞展現之間的詼諧關係。結合環境與錄像裝置的泰國藝術家Porntaweesak Rimsakul,用不同顏色的氣球代表泰國最近族群的衝突,希望藉由空飄不同顏色的氣球,象徵和平。 「夢」結構下的十個「個展」子題將呈現當代藝術家對亞洲社會體系中諸多面向的觀察與詮釋,跨越日本、韓國、中國、越南、新加坡、印尼、泰國、印度以及台灣本土等國度。從個展的角度出發,完整的呈現藝術家的創作面貌外,也可進行跨國度、民族的參照、分析與比較。十位藝術家的個展聚集的藝術作品氛圍,將交集、也將再現亞洲各民族在不同的當代社會文本中對「夢」所發展出的特定意函與社會意義。
