#Program Proposal:
American artist Mary Sherman’s residency at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts begins the 11th of May and ends the 13th of July. Mary is the director of TransCultural Exchange in Boston. She has executed many international cross-culture projects, which now dot the world landscape, including “The Tile Project,” here at the Kuandu Museum.
Mary Sherman is fascinated with the physicality of paint – as opposed to its illusionary qualities. In her work, she explores the tension between painting’s sensuality and the mechanical, hard-edged qualities of electronic technology and 3-dimensional form to create abstract works that push the definition of traditional painting into new directions. Each of her exhibitions becomes a conceptual springboard for a site-specific, often viewer activated work. Her works are created to respond to the historical, physical and/or psychological space in which they are experienced. Frequently, she works collaboratively – both to find the necessary expertise for her works and to continue to stimulate new ways of understanding and expanding upon the possibilities available to art.
During her stay at KdMoFA Mary Sherman will lead TNUA students from numerous disciplines in a workshop entitled “Here, There and Everywhere.” The workshop will conclude with an exhibition of the class’ collaborative works, opening July 11th and running through August 31st.

「AIR」 Program Events
#「Artists Workshop-Here, There and Everywhere」
Mary Sherman is hosting the artist workshop during her residency time at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts. She will lead the TNUA students from various disciplines to create collaborative works. The underlying premise is that through a dialog between the students’ different expertises, new possibilities for new forms of art can arise. For example, the workshop will explore what happens when art students work with musicians, dancers work with sculptors, painters work with filmmakers, theater people work with image makers, etc. Various dimensions of development can arise, inspiring new visions and new ways of thinking about art - resulting in a new art for the future – one mindful of the world’s increasingly interconnectivity.
#「Artist Talk」
Mary Sherman will hold talks in three different places during her stay in Taiwan, contextualizing and sharing her cross-discipline experiences. The lecture schedule is:
(1)5/27(Tue)Kaoshiung:National Kaoshiung Normal University/Department of Cross-Field Art
(2)5/30(Fri)Hualien:Hualien Creative & Cultural Park

(Collaboration : Anticipating the Art of the Future)
#「Exhibition」
