Project Introduction
Born in Tokyo in 1989. Graduated from Department of Moving Images and Performing Arts, Faculty of Art and Communication Evening Division, Tama Art University. He works on photography, video and installation, And through the extreme of playful behaviors in the works, he has opened up a perspective of viewing the marginal scenes in daily space and urban life.

During this residency, Takafumi focused on the African snails in Taiwan which were introduced by Shimojo Kumaichi, an engineer from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government during the Japanese colonial period. Through the images of African snails crawling slowly inside and outside colonial-era buildings, unfolding a multi-layered interpretation of the historical context of man and nature, the import and naturalization of African snails in Taiwan, and the history of rulers during the colonial period.

This project will present the research documents related to African snails during Takafumi’s residency, as well as the records of raising African snails during his research and creation.
