Famous Scenes in Life: Lin Yu-Ting Solo Exhibition
Famous Scenes” refers to recurring places or locations that hold special meaning. They are similar to the empty space with three large concrete pipes featured in the animation, Doraemon. The child characters in the show use this space as their playground. Another such place is the inside of Nobita’s desk drawer, which contains a wormhole that can be used to travel through time. These famous scenes are not only a key location in the show, but also in the minds of its many viewers. Because of this, famous animation scenes are made into collectible merchandise. And, famous movie settings have become priority destinations for movie fans. These scenes are not merely a location, tree, wall, or alley. They have become classical static images, which serve as markers for specific vivid memories. The ubiquitous command post by the sports field, a public grave along the road, an alley that passes through a long row of buildings, a house with a red gate...these are locations that we remember. Yet, these memories are only vague impressions. Therefore, I have taken some of these settings and transformed them into desserts. I want to create scenery that will invoke a sense of familiar strangeness from the viewer. Through these intriguing encounters, the viewer can revisit certain locations, and form new connections and meanings to them.
