About the Artist: Yahata Aki
A contemporary artist, Yahata Aki earned her Master’s degree in Intermedia Art from Tokyo University of the Arts. After withdrawing the doctoral coursework in the same department, she pursued further studies to support her creative practice, obtaining a degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Shiga University of Medical Science in 2020.

Through interdisciplinary creation involving fieldwork, interviews, and research, her work centers on the concept of "frontier"—geographical, social, and psychosomatic. She explores how art can expand and evolve to investigate the potential of life and the possibilities of the body.

In 2021, she produced, "On this day, a day she wanted to live." a video which is to discuss the complex inner worlds of individuals holding multiple identities within high-pressure modern society.
In 2022, she founded "TESHOKU"Web, an online archive documenting the culture of eating with hands around the world.

Her recent works focus on themes such as "road movies," "eating with hands," and "Shanshui," while also incorporating sound-based performance practices.
