Soojung YI (Curator of MMCA, Korea) is born in Busan, Korea. She majored in Aesthetics in Seoul National University and received MFA with the thesis titled “Contemporary art and trauma : trauma and recovery in Niki de Saint Phalle via Judith Herman”. She is interested in the process the trauma and its recovery in the personal lives of the artist and the interest extended to the traumatic memory of the communities. Yi worked for Daejeon Museum of Art as a curator (media art) and worked for art center nabi(www.nabi.or.kr) as a creative director. Art Center nabi is the most important institution which focuses on the media in the public area in Korea. There she researched with the media researchers, artists in Seoul on the rising of media façade in urban space and its interaction with the public. She joined the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art 2012 and has been working for the exhibition and projects related media arts. Her previous projects include as “The Future is Now!- New Media Collection from MMCA, Korea”, “Younghae Chang Heavy Industries”(2013), “Shirin Neshat”(2014), “Infinite Challenge-Women Media Pioneers in Asia”, “Anechoic Project-experimental films and music performances”(2014), and “William Kentridge”(2015). She is working on the themes of trauma, memory and its recoveries.
