Dr Duncan Mountford is based in London, UK. His work focuses on the history and philosophy of science and knowledge, and uses museums, laboratories and scientific instruments as the inspiration for installations and sculptures that also deal with memory and melancholy. He is working on a series of sculptures that use lenses and mirrors with integral video sequences. These works use the lens as a metaphor for examining objects divorced from context, and the video sequences focus on the wild life of Taiwan, both living and as specimens in the storerooms of museums. The video sequences will allude to the history of Taiwan and its colonisation, with sequences being shot in sites of former occupation or focussing on specimens collected during such times. Dr Mountford has exhibited internationally, and in autumn 2011 will be based at Taipei Artists Village.
