Tang Ling-Nah
2010.06.01~2010.07.31
Singapore
Ling-Nah TANG’s work is inspired by the city’s transitory spaces, and it reflects on the conditions of the urban city, especially its speed and lack of intimacy and depth in interpersonal relationships. Her work involves demarcating and creating an illusion of space. For this residency, she is drawing on-site using charcoal, paint, paper and masking tape on the wall and existing architectural elements in the gallery space. By blackening certain areas, she hopes to emphasize and draw the viewers’attention to the actual space in the gallery. In addition, she will refer to photo-images of real architectural spaces to draw an illusionary space on the wall and paper. In her work, she “de-construct” the original real spaces and “re-construct” them into imaginary spaces to create a sense of unfamiliar familiarity. Her drawing resembles trompe l’œil murals. Stairways, doors and windows are important features in her work.
