Florine Leoni and Sylvain Baumann, originally from Switzerland and France, are installation artists who work with various media such as video, sound, architectural elements, found materials and so on. With their installations they foster immersive environments, with concerted physical, auditory and visual stimuli which reveal personal assessments of our experiences as human beings. They crystallize glimpses of what they call the conductive dimension of the environment and more precisely what guides the human while the human itself is conducting its own being. Their work aims to illuminate the scope of this power structure and this relationship with authority in which the human being is –either forcibly or completely unbeknownst to itself –subservient. Their exhibitions conquer the spaces they inhabit and lay siege to human conduct. Their investigations into the congruity between humanity and spatiality develop through a creative process that is devoted to an intimate understanding of the sites they will eventually inhabit. Encounters with diverse local cultures, their defining locations, their narratives, and their beliefs give them a better understanding of the interactions between those elements that comprise contemporary space. Their desire for manifold perspective on the world leads them to regular relocation that brings an array of lifestyles and working conditions, which in turn give them a better knowledge of both the Other and Themselves. This grip of risk incurred by the willingness to voluntarily adapt anew to their surroundings is, above all, their means of retaining a measure of flexibility in their work that allows it to evolve alongside its time and its space. The architectural installation VOIDS BETWEEN SCENES which they developed specifically for the spaces of the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, is a composition of the elements sound, video and three dimensional interventions with metal wire. This installation is a reflection on the problematic of charged space which arose in the latest projects and became a relevant issue for the artists. The spectator will find himself in a plurality of elements where he once again will be confronted with the limits of the accessible and his very own position.
