YAHATA Aki
Residency Date:2026.03.30-06.22

YAHATA Aki is a contemporary artist who completed an MFA in Intermedia Art at Tokyo University of the Arts, and after leaving the doctoral program in the same department, she graduated from the Shiga University of Medical Science. She creates cross-disciplinary works based on field research and interviews. Her primary media are video and installation.

Her inquiry and practice explore how art can anatomize the human cultural body and open pathways to visceral and primal bodily sensibilities within contemporary society. Within this framework, her recent work focuses on themes such as eating-with-hands cultures and road trips to frontiers. She also experiments with diverse developments in moving image, including attempts to improvise road movies using VJ techniques. In 2022, she founded TESHOKU Web, an online archive documenting eating-with-hands cultures around the world, where she serves as director and editor. In recent years, she has also begun exploring musical expression.
