佐竹龍蔵
Ryuzo Satake
2017.08.17~2017.09.07
Japan
Ryuzo SATAKE was born in Kochi, Japan in 1987. Studied Japanese painting at Kyoto University of Art and Design and graduated from the Masters program (M.F.A) in 2012. Part-time lecturer at KUAD from 2013. Now he is living in Kyoto.

He uses transparent traditional mineral pigments as his medium. Taking advantage of this material, he makes paintings with a pointillistic technique. His main works are portraits of people and imaginary creatures such as holy beasts and Yokai monsters. Their appearances change depending on the distance between the painting and the viewer. As the viewer approaches the work closer, the motifs break up into small points, thereby expressing the uncertainty and ambiguity of existence.
