I was born in Mexico and I went to art school at the E.N.P.E.G. “La Esmeralda”, part of the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City. I also spent a semester in an exchange program of the Baden Würtemberg Stipendium at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany. Over the past years I’ve been fully dedicated to my personal work. I’ve also attended a few residencies in different places around the world, like: New York, Seoul, Vienna, Norway, Portugal, California, Finland, and Japan. These experiences have been crucial for my career.

My work intends to incite puzzling sceneries, which are brought about through a series of actions whose main purpose is the creation of broken narratives. The elements that shape up this set of processes are put together in an effort to give the spectator a glimpse of a new and baffling reality. The pieces that sketch out this panorama come to us as models of impossible constructions, or artifacts whose true purpose we are unable to explain. My goal is for the work to leave hints that may as well describe incidents of a time that is not ours to call our own.

During my stay in Taipei I would like to concentrate on the relationship between objects and their narrative potential. I want to establish links among apparently dissimilar fields, like literature, architecture, baseball, science fiction and language, in order to create artificial settings that can be host to astounding situations. The concept of Fiction becomes an essential aspect of this line of research, and the way that I approach it is performed at different levels. What I want is to explore on alternative ways to create non-linear narratives.

I aim that my works depict stories that do not exist, but nevertheless stand out as potential. The independent manner in which the pieces behave, and also the projection that they have in their existence as a whole, give way to narratives that speak to us from a different kind of logic. I’m interested in outlining a setting that doesn’t exist in factual basis, only as a “futuristic” projection. What I mean by this is the sense of anticipation originated from actual places and events, and that through this working process can turn into situations that we do not expect. A key issue in this project is the volatility between the outside context and what happens in the studio, fundamentally in terms of a disruption with reality. In the end, the work intends to contrive the idea we have of what a story is, of what molds a narrative, to suggest a counter-universe where the absurd and uncertainty prevail.

The work that I will develop here in Taipei will be directly linked with my immersion in the city’s unique atmosphere, that of an exciting metropolis with hyper modern infrastructure, an incredible cultural heritage, and beautiful natural landscapes. Part of my work is deeply related with such kind of contexts, as I like to confront different elements in order to create contrasting situations and bewildering settings.
