About Project
The flow of feeling helps to expand the boundaries of information, knowledge and technology. But does feeling carry ownership? How do people share, protect or restrain each other's feelings? The ocean and colonial sentiments have strengthened the image of adventures based on patriarchy, while the roles on land are given the responsibility of providing harbors and the sense of security. Their desire for transparent transmission, flow, and sharing of feelings is not allowed. What follows are the commonly seen unequal dominance of requirements, sexual violence, sexual orientation attacks, and a society lack of honest communication skills. After the legalization of same-sex marriages in Taiwan and Mexico in whole or in part, the flow of the sexual spectrum is still frequently regarded as abnormal; Mexico’s social context of the existence of both hatred and respect for female roles, femicide cases and high ratio of extramarital relations are paradoxical and worthy of further investigation and analysis.
"POLY", as one of the sub-projects of "Pacific Pirates #2 Temporary Autonomous Zone", focuses on the research and interviews of Mexican social context and the experiences of how feelings flow. It follows the artist’s interaction and exploration of relationship anarchy and polyamory over the years, and aims to discuss: How can the elements that trigger feelings be shared and transmitted to generate greater agency, which in turn disrupts the footholds and power struggles between different roles, and derives possibilities for new types of community? In today's mainstream beliefs that regard possessiveness and territory exclusivity as sublime, how are poly beliefs, values and practices viewed by society? Through reproduction of writings and two interactive installations "POLY: Keyword Clippings" and "Mare Liberum: Re-Gifting", this project observes and verifies that, under the premise of informed consent, the process of reproducing and re-giving with open, free and decentralized spirit can not only cross borders, but also generate something irreplaceable.
In the workshop, the artist will share about the idea of the project and invite participants to share themselves’ imaginations of "poly", including but not limited to polyamory in a narrow sense. Regardless of whether you are practicing a poly lifestyle, or simply poly-curious or poly-questioning, through the two interactive installations "POLY Keyword Clippings" and "Mare Liberum: Re-Gifting", we will expand, deconstruct and explore our ideas of ownership, territory, centralization, freedom, open access, the spectrum of gender and sexual orientation.

About Artist
Yunjie Liao is a news, op-ed and non-fiction writer who combines visual and audio elements into her storytelling. Her multinational, transcultural and interdisciplinary works often revolve around freedom, margin, conflict, misunderstanding, wrestling for expression, and the idea of “home.” Several works have earned journalism, designing and filmmaking awards. Through journalistic and field research experiences, she examines the similarities between distant corners and neighboring fields, and recreates the scenes of diverse narratives. Her most impressive memories related with polyamory and other forms of openness and love occured in a desert: Black Rock City and Burning Man, which lead to her current project “POLY” in PP#2:TAZ. Born and raised in Taiwan, Yunjie established herself as an independent journalist after working in Apple Daily and publishing an autobiography of a year-long journey in 2013. Her works can be found in local and international media outlets like Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Die Zeit, The Big Issue and so on. She has visited over 40 countries and will continue her life on the road. Besides storytelling, Yunjie has a passion for nature. She is a certificated lifesaver by International Life Saving Federation.
