Humberto Duque was born in Mexico in 1978. He went to art school at the E.N.P.E.G. “La Esmeralda”, at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City and at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, Germany. Here is a list of things related to his work. It’s not laid out in order of importance, or chronological sequence.
1. Multiplicity and mathematics: if numbers have such a high reputation, what be their opposite?
2. Architecture: any sort of a world must be outlined.
3. Baseball: it’s all about numbers.
4. Humor, irony, and sinister sharpness: together at last!
5. Science fiction: we believe in stories that take us nowhere.
6. Broken landscapes: a panorama to fiction and many other disruptions.
7. The absurd: we have to twist what we think is real.
8. Repetition: it takes us further away from reality.
9. Amazing situations: they tend to split time.
10. Language: the key to creating baffling new worlds.
